Holidays in South Africa – Sports Goods v/s Baggage Allowance

Though many articles tell you about where to go, in South Africa but there is not much about what kinds of things you can do or what options are available there as far as Sports are concerned. Also many first time travelers find it difficult to decide that what they will need while sporting in South Africa.

Well first of all, it is understandable that where there are a lot of beaches, there must be plenty of water sports. But if you don’t have a list of these sports at hand before packing your bags for South Africa flights you might end up missing an important equipment or costume that you will end up buying at Hefty prices in South Africa.

Flag of South Africa Holiday DestinationKeeping Swimming Costume is very basic but often people forget to keep the rubber shoes that you may need while on the beach in South Africa. But having a couple of beach wear items and is always good as you will be spending a lot of your time at the beach. Here, let’s remain focused on the beach sports you will be playing in South Africa and these beach sports are no ordinary game plays such as Cage Shark diving. But this category of extreme sports will involve the costume being given to you from the sport provider due to safety reasons. But swimming with the Whales, requires a snorkeling outfit, even a diving or swimming costume will do if you are headed for the whales in the Zoo but open ocean will need a little more than that.

Please note do not pack extremely heavy sports goods to save on Luggage. As many airlines offering cheap flights to Cape Town, the South African ultimate beach city has very expensive rates for paid Baggage. So the trick of the trade is, to leave your heavy equipment home and get a rented one when you arrive in South Africa considering your trip is for two weeks or less. But when planning Holidays in South Africa for say a month or so it’s rather better to pay the baggage than to pay the rent for that long period.

Next comes Fishing gear. Here as well the length of trip and the Free Baggage limit permitted by your airline counts more. Most airline offering flights to Johannesburg offer big baggage allowances where as when you fly onwards on a domestic flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town or flight to Durban that the baggage allowance provided by the domestic carriers is much less and you end up paying more for extra baggage than is actually the cost of what your extra baggage contains.

The little items however, such as beach Frisbees and volley balls or badminton rackets are better to be kept than to leave them home. As they don’t weigh much but save you a lot when you are on a low budget and can’t go spending around on everything on your trip.

Last but not least, for professionals its always to book your flights with an airline that permits big baggage allowance so that you can carry all that you need. Her, remember that economy is not always cheap when it comes to doing the totals. Always do your math when booking a flight ticket i.e.,, Economy Class tickets + extra payment for baggage + extra payment for snacks OR Premium Economy Ticket that gets you a big Free baggage allowance along with free snacks and a lot of comfort!
