Abidjan Paris of Africa

Abidjan is the former capital of Cote d’Ivoire. It is the largest city in the country, fourth largest French-speaking city in the world and once an old, coastal fishing village. The village that transformed after the completion of Viridi canal in 1951 into a central seaport and is now on the track of progress and economic strength Abidjan has a high level of industrialization and urbanization.

This city stands on several converging peninsulas and islands connected by bridges. There are many interesting places in Abidjan like the University of Abidjan, The national library and the Museum. Some other important sights worth a visit are Cocody Museum of Contemporary Art, Parc du Banco rain forest reserve, St Paul’s Cathedral. Le Plateau is known for skyscrapers.

Abidjan is home to many football clubs and the most popular game is of course football. ASEC Mimosas football club is one of the main clubs providing training to the young and talented players and hence doing a great job for the youngsters to become professional players and earn name and fame for the country.

This city is home to many industries, which include chemicals, Textiles, food processing, automobile and also a large Oil Refinery. Air Ivoire also has it head office in this city. Felix Houphouet Boigny International Airport serves the city, all the flights to Abidjan and from the city are served by this airport.

From May to July is the long rainy season in the city. Climate in Abidjan is generally humid through out the year. It may rain continuously for several days during the rainy season. Temperature remains almost constant at around 27 degree centigrade.

Out of several means of transportation, trains are most commonly used. Trains run from several stations in the city. Other means of transportation can be ferries, Taxis, and buses and the Houphouet Boigny International Airport for all national and international flights to Abidjan.

There are some amazingly attractive beaches like the Bassam, Assinie, Jacqueville and Sassandra. These beaches are also a great attraction for the tourists as you can enjoy horseback riding, some street performances like folk music, local dance performances open-air cafes, as well as bars restaurants and hotels near the beaches.

Abidjan is relatively affordable for tourists then other places in other parts of the world but has got all you may need or want during your holidays. If you are planning for your holidays just take a cheap flight to Abidjan and enjoy yourself within a minimum budget.
